Prop 81: Migrate Inertia OPbridge to IBC

1. TL;DR

This proposal aims to migrate Inertia from the OP bridge to IBC, enabling instant bridging without a finalization period.

2. Proposal Details

This proposal will enable the OP Bridge to use IBC internally for instant bridging and allow IBC to mint existing OP bridged tokens rather than IBC vouchers.

Rationale

Inertia was initially launched with an OP bridge that requires a 1-day finalization period for withdrawals from the Inertia rollup to Initia L1. To provide users with an instant bridging experience, we propose migrating Inertia to use IBC (Inter-Blockchain Communication) protocol instead.

Benefits of this migration:

  • Instant bridging without finalization delays
  • Improved user experience for the lending ecosystem
  • Seamless integration with existing OP bridged tokens

The migration will configure the OP bridge to utilize IBC internally, enabling instant bridging while maintaining compatibility with previously minted OP bridged tokens. Instead of creating new IBC vouchers, the system will mint the existing OP bridged token format.

If this proposal is approved, users will be able to bridge INIT, TIA, USDC, sINIT, and nINIT tokens between Inertia and Initia L1 instantly through IBC, eliminating the current 1-day withdrawal period.

Implementation Details

The technical implementation will connect Bridge ID 32 (Inertia) with IBC channel-69 using the transfer port, allowing seamless migration from the OP bridge infrastructure to IBC while preserving token compatibility.
